I've been getting increasingly annoyed with my marker, and after doing some sums (and swearing) I reckon that I can perhaps spend roughly £400 - £450 on a marker come april time. Now then, is it worth getting a new marker (looking at Etha, Etek, Axe and Drone as possible contenders) or is it worth trawling the for sale section and getting a slightly older, but potentially better, marker?

for the amount that you are potentially budgeting, you can easily acquire a 2010 NT in the sales section of the forums.

You could get yourself an extremely nice high-end marker from the 2010 or even 2011 period for that budget. Either an NT10 for around £300 or an Ego 11 for £400-450

So... general consensus is get a nice high-end marker rather than a new mid range :) I can live with that :)

hello_moto, I haven't seen that many NT's go up for sale? Or do they just sell that quick?

stock colour NT10s are going for around £300 to £350 (mainly in the graphite/claret colour scheme)

stock colour NT11s around £400 to £450 (usually ninja black)

special edition NT10s/NT11 anywhere between £450 (i know!!) to £540 (PGA ornates seem to be cropping up quite a lot and there was 1 custom anno electric blue/white splash)

There is nothing like shooting a high end marker ! Even if it is a few years old. Also what sort of marker have you had before?
If you don't mind doing a bit of maintenance from time to time (grease the orings and maybe change them) then any marker like a Dye DM9 -11 is a good buy. They haven't changed too much over the years but then they have not had a reason to change as they work brilliantly. Nice and smooth and simple enough maintain. If you are not a fan of maintenance and don't mind something a bit louder and less smooth then consider an ego 10 or 11 for that money you have. You can pretty much wipe off the dirt and forget about it.

I like the way a NT shoots but I believe the DM series to be a more reliable but if you can find a well loved NT you wont be disappointed.

I shoot a geo 2 and im really happy with it. You might find someone who is selling one for a quick sale within budget in april but then I would be happy to shoot all of the above lol

IMHO anyone buying a brand new marker is nuts - you'lost a few hundred normally the moment it arrives. Last years models are usually much cheaper, and the saving will still allow you to pay for a full service and be ahead, plus you can sell on if you don't get on with it.
That said - planet often sell cosmetic seconds at a heavy discount, which is not a bad way to get your mitts on a brand new marker for cheaper money.

Pretty much mirroring everything said above really, I only ever buy second hand. Is alot cheaper and gives me more funds to buy other kit that I needed when started out.

IMO buying a new marker is abit like buying a new car and how much value it loses when you drive it off the forecourt analogy.

That said, if I had a stack of money behind me would happily buy new - end of day it depends on what you can afford.
