wait whaaa????
A few years back there were a number of cylinder based failures / explosions.
Stakos reputation suffered at that time but I believe no fault was placed on the cylinder design.

One case may have been related to high rate flash filling which is certainly not recommended for the Stako design.

Personaly I wouldn't go for Stako, but that is related to the cost and shorter lifetime due to no retesting, and there is a more diverse range of cylinder designs and sizes available nowadays but there are benefits to the Stako type

ahhh I see, correct me if I'm wrong but seeing as most cylinder failures occur under the circumstance of flash filling surely it should be recommended to not do so on the bottle as even a small amount of debris in the fill nipple under such circumstances can cause catastrophic failure?

You should no longer find a true 'flash fill' system at a UK site / event, but should also fill in a 'controlled' manner, e.g. if filling from empty then pause and purge at least once whilst filling.

Debris contamination will happen no matter what the fill rate if the fill nipple is not clear - always fit a nipple cover to keep dirt away, and look at the nipple before filling. Oil contamination will be highly dangerous

There have been a few recent threads dealing with fill safety issues, start as below and also look at the subsequent links

There was one.

The guy filled up and there was an explosion caused by oil in the system. Oil (which is flammable) and high pressure air, mixes very well. Too well. They think someone had sprayed some oil in their fill nipple (why you would ever need to do that I dont know), which deposited the oil. Then Nige came along and tried to fill his, but it exploded.

It was nothing to do with the Stako. I know you pointed this out, im just making it clear.
