Hey Peeps,

Iv only been enjoying the beautiful game that is paintball for nearly 2 years now but want to get into it abit more, but i recently came across some problems with my Proto SLG. Iv only used it on 2 separate days since getting it and ran into some trouble last week with it. Im hoping someone can help me out so that i can avoid such troubles in the future.

It worked fine for the first game, then it jammed. A ball burst in the chamber so i cleared it out with a battle swab, but as soon as i pulled out the swab all the air came rushing out of the tank and completely emptied it :(. So i took the gun apart, cleaned it out, got the tank filled, and got ready to go back out again, fired afew shots off to test it and it worked fine for those few shots, then same thing happened again, burst ball, cleared it with swab, all air came out :(

Am i doing something obviously stupid?

:(

it is probably dumping all the air because the shell of a broken ball is getting it stuck forward and preventing it from pulling the bolt back and sealing, so it is not your fault that it is leaking air

you just need to sort out the paint breaking

take the eye covers off and chack that the eyes are clean and in the right place and that the detents (small ruber nubbins or springy plastic depending on year and model) are in good condition and if plastic are mooving freely/sprining back ok

check the setting on your hopper (depending on which hopper you are using)

take the bolt out, make sure it is lubed (appart from bolt face o ring) and make sure that the bolt face o ring is in good shape and is not overly worn

and most importantly, make sure that you are using good quality paint, probably best not to use a tourney grade as they are a bit brittle for slg's

what hopper are you using?

what model/year slg do you have?

hope this helps

What FPS were you set on.
Would the bolt stay forward ?
If it was too low maybe after a few shots it wasn't high enough to fully cycle ?
Just a guess. Never had that problem with the SLG I had, mine kept pinching & breaking balls.

Cheers Guys,

@ soul snatcher24:
The Hopper im using is Invert Halo Too, SLG is 09 model that i got about 7months ago new.

@ Racerman:

Cant remember off top of my head what the FBS was, But the marker was on Default settings, i havent changed it.
And yes the Bolt got jammed forward when the ball broke :(

Another lil question guys, Whats the best way to cut down on breaking paint? Is it just keeping the gun clean through and through? and cleaning everything if a ball does break?

Cheers Guys.!

prevention is always better than cure so if you use good quality paint (preferably of a thicker tougher shell for an slg), make sure that your detents (small plastic nubbins) are moving freely, springing back into place and aren't overly worn

also make sure that the eye pipe (clear piece of tubing in breach) isn't restricting the detents

turn the hopper setting for tension or tourque down (best to look in manual)

and that the forward most o ring on the bolt is in good condition (bolt face o ring)

if you do continue to get a ball chop in the breach then it is best to clean the gun out completelly before using it again to make it less likelly to break more paint but if you don't have time then it isn't essential

and give dye a ring and they will talk you through checking if there are any updated parts that could prevent further problems

Yeah I had the Halo Too and the SLG '10 so I can totally empathise with you !
Did you hold the back bleed button in for a few seconds when the bolt suck forward ?
That cycles the bolt, if you pinch a ball / gets stuck forward press that and you'll feel it slam back.
If your Reg is flush with the bottom then the fps shouldn't be a problem, check the detents and O Rings aren't too warn and if so just replace them
Honestly I just gave up with it and got an Ego '10 & Rotor haha !

On your other questions, Don't over lube the bolt and get the feed settings just right on the invert. I was on I think 2 speed, 3 mic and on for the stack setting.
For your cleaning question, swab the barrel in the game and squeegee it when you get back probably the best way & having at least 2 swabs to begin with helps, 1 on you in game and 1 back with your bag for when you've finished a game if necessary :)

I hope some of this has helped you in some roundabout way haha !

SLGs dont utilise eye pipes!

SLGs get too much of a bad rep on these forums; my SLG UL has only ever suffered from full-auto syndrome but that was a result of me being too liberal with my application of hater sauce on the bolt. Other than that, it hasnt failed me once.

I didnt even think of the bleed button, i will remember that if it happens again.
Dam you and your Ego, would love to get my hands on one, but dont have the cash or the reason to get one at the moment as i dont play enough, but really want to play more. But not sure what game yet, as all im doing atm is Woodsball.

Cheers for that mate, im sure i would be spending ages looking for eye pipes :)
...............................

Thanks again guys for all your advice, I was reading on another site about some SLG`s chopping balls because of the speed of the feed from the hopper and the detents being too small, i will keep everything you have mentioned to the fore-front of my mind.

Currently my gun is out of action for the time being, as i have to send it back to Dye because of a few issues with it :( But when she is back il give it a whorl.

for the amount they cost they perform pretty well considering
