Anyone care to explain how it all works?

Like the season standings - Eastern/Western Conference; like how they all play the same number of games, despite some teams making it into the finals (and supposedly playing more games)

Also - anyone know an up-to-date site? As the "official" one hasn't been updated since Jan 2006

The conferences are pretty nearly irrelevant except for assigning players to the All-Star squads. What matters is season rank for purposes of seeding World Cup--and of course individual event wins, etc. for the cash prizes.
Prelims in NXL with 16 teams is brackets of 4 so each team plays 3 prelim matches within their bracket. 2 teams move on from each bracket and are re-seeded for the quarters. The four quarterfinal winners are re-seeded and the two finalists play a final title match. 3rd and 4th are determined by high seed of the semi losers taking third place.
So, 3 prelim matches.
4 teams on Sunday play 1 match. 2 teams play 2 matches and 2 teams play 3 matches.
Each event result is assigned a point total that accumulates over the season. For example, RL has 195 points after 2 events; 100 for a win and 95 for a second.

So much the same as the NPPL style then.

The results on the NXL website kinda threw me off - because it says they've all played 15 games, etc and it's a lot more like a standard League style like NHL...so it jst didn't make sense cos obviously the teams who make the finals play more games...
