I was playing with a stacko at the masters today - The bottle was checked for test as usual in the morning and all was well, filled to 4500, and no probs. When I went back for another fill tho I was told they were banned in europe as of that day. I was still able to fill to 3k too, otherwise my day would have been f*****, but understandable, Safety has to come first. I know my bottle doesn't leak, I got it at Big game and it was filled when I left to 4k, and still had that in it over a week later. No probs. Hopefully its just a dodgy batch or i'll be taking my 2 week old bottle back to the shop!

Still, it begs the question how does a dodgey "batch" get out anyway. Safety is no1, and imo this shows a big failure on stakos part to actually test the bottles properly.

Have you ever seen the film Fight Club?

There's a simple formula.

They work out the monetary cost of a general recall = A. They work out the monetary cost of damage caused by the fault of the product = B.

If B > A = no recall.

All the big cylinder companies have had to make recalls in the past - Luxfer who make PMI (pure energy i think) bottles had a recall in May last year of over 6000 bottles - the thread is still in the PBNation Airsystems section as the top sticky. Stakos are new and an easy target. Lets not judge before we know the facts.

Tis a good point, many new and old items have production issues which may effect the product manufacture due to some small issue - we have to be carefull in what we do (paintball) due to the impact of serious implications of such a production fault - especially as injuries or even death can occur from a bottle exploding etc etc.

Best wait and see what the official position is, if its just a production batch thats effected or the whole process in general which is at fault, either way its worth waiting to see before panicking...

Anyone wanna buy my stako? ;) :p

Quiet simply they do not test every bottle:(
If they make 1000 bottles to the exact same standard, then every bottle in principal is the same!
So if you test a random pick of 1% of the bottles and they pass, in theory, all bottles will pass?
"but as anyone who has worked in quality control will tell you that this test method is a load of borrocks"

very true, the same process occurs in the manufacture of motorcycle helmets.

in some cases, unscrupulous manufacturers will send helmets for testing to the country with the lowest standards available. in other cases, only a select batch is sent for approval, and thereafter substandard materials are used.

I hate to think of things happening like that, but the simple fact is that they do. Why would the paintball industry be any different. I will gladly carry the extra 400 grams of a bottle, rather than take the chance on a stako.

many many people have used stakos for a long while now, with no problems. probably just an isolated incident. as someone said before luxfer had a similar issue, itll work itself out

we as a team have used stakos for a year now and never had one issue with them.

I think there might be some politics involved with this as well fro some reason every one didn't like it when stako cam out and the thing in Madrid was a pmi reg and a stako bottle and it was the users fault not the bottle.

I'm probably wrong but isn't it stako's that don't need to be tested but they are disposable as in they expire on a certain date? If so why were HPAC retesting?
