Last leg of the Series 2K2 - 6th Element, Witton Castle

This event is being filmed by a TV production company who are approaching BBC, ITV and Sky channels with a view to showing paintball as a sport. Regardless of whether the production is picked up by the TV media or not, a video of the event will be produced for sale to players.

It is planned that the video will be available to buy at the Presentation Evening in November. The videos will be £20 each or £15 if prepaid (to 6E) at the event or earlier.

In an effort to raise awareness of paintball as a whole, this event will be open to spectators as well as the media so let's all be on our best behaviour!:)

It is also expected that this weekend will see the debut for the new (and up until now top secret) "Crossball" tournament field, which some of you may have heard rumours about, that has been designed and developed by Pro-Bunker Systems.

We are also planning a BBQ and party at the Castle bar for Saturday night after the Inter-Uni tournament. The BBQ will be £5 per person and will need to be booked in advance - more details to follow.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon:)

Sounds excellent..

A Big Hand to 6E.. It's about time the North East finally came into it's own.. We have enough teams here..

And a Series First.. a 2k2 event available on video... Gillie, do you have any more details on the video? What are you planning for it to include? (I better get my Hair cut:))

Also, Will it be possible to walk the fields on the Saturday? Will they be the same as the Sunday fields?

Si, thats a bit drastic isn't it? I am sure the camera will be taking pics of the more, how can we say, nimble aero dynamic players that are out there :D Only kidding mate, see you on the Sunday, if not on the Sat for the Uni/p1$$ up thingy :D

Good call about the excellent northern teams! We are an untapped talent up here, and I expect them to do well on the day. Don't let me or Si down now, you Northern Monkeys!

P.S Sorry about the bad grammar/spellings/points made in this post. I have just got back from my 22nd birthday night out, and am feeling a bit drunk! :D :D :D

The Video...

The idea behind this video is to try and make a production that shows paintball as a sport. The idea is to try and create something along similar lines to what you'd see on any of the sports channels with information about the teams, various players, the divisions and how they are organised.

What we are trying to avoid is an hour long "inside paintball documentry" which basically consists of assorted snatches of interviews, wobbly screens, bizzarre effects & dodgy camera angles interspersed with close ups of some guy sitting behind a bunker shooting really fast or running up a field and bunkering someone. That's great if you play the sport but unfortunately means little or nothing if you don't.

The aim is to show the whole field and both teams so that somone who knows nothing about paintball can get an idea of what actualy happens during a game, see the plays that a team makes as opposed to individuals and see the outcome of those moves.

The company behind the production specialise in sports coverage for the television companies and they've come up with some ideas on how to achieve the best coverage in order to try and get the product we're after. The commentry (yes...in game commentry) is being done by a BBC sports commentator who's already started brushing up on his terminology so we won't have it sounding like we just grabbed a guy off the street who knows nothing about the sport.

What I will stress is that this is not simply a "promotional" video for 6th Element or anyone else for that matter. The 6E name will no doubt be prominent throughout as we are the only sponsors of the production and it's costing a fortune. We're not a huge paintball company, we just believe passionately in paintball. The idea behind selling the video is try and offset some of the costs and we're hoping that paintballers will support us in this.

It's a gamble as to whether or not the paintball fraternity will like the style. Paintballers might find it boring as it won't be like any other paintball production available, alternatively they might love it which is what we're hoping for. Ultimately we're aiming for a product that can be sold to the television companies, whether that's BBC, ITV, Channel 5, Sky 1, Bravo, Men & Motors, the Xtreme sports channels or simply local access TV...(OK...maybe not Channel 5).

The jury is still out on selected music for intro & backing tracks...The humping techno beat or thrash metal that seems to accompany most paintball videos is definately on a back burner at the minute...we're just not sure what to replace it with yet...of course "thrash-techno-garage-speedfunk-deathmetal" may be what people want...but we are trying to break a mold here...

Ultimately if this takes off, we'd like to back production of a series of videos/programmes of the entire, or at least a significant number of the 2k3 series next year...but it'll come down to the players at the end of the day.

We'd really like to do things like put up stats and information about players & teams so if any of the teams competeting would like to send us a (BRIEF) outline of their team with details of rank, status, when they were formed, significant wins, star "quarterback/centreforward/bunker monkey" we will try and include it.

Guys be aware...we are not making any promises that EVERYONE will be on camera...we're trying something new (at least as far as we're aware of) and we're still not sure what the end result will be.

Love it or hate it...we're hopng everyone will support it.

and yes, the fields will be the same on Saturday and Sunday - the only difference may be the Crossball field which is making its debut on the Saturday and may be changed for the Sunday depending on how the field plays.

Time to walk the fields on Saturday will depend on how many Uni teams we have entered for the tournament. The fields should be available to walk late afternoon before it gets dark.

This is definitely my geeky classical music fan side showing here but IMHO there are some parts of The Planet Suite by Holst that are tailor-made for Paintball

Failing that it's a bit of a cliche but you can't go far wrong with The Fat of the Land Album from the Prodigy :D

Series 2002 Update

Lets all get behing 6E with this one. I will be seeing Gillie and Andy this weekend and suggesting some music for the video:D

I will have to get my hair (singular) cut in case they want an interview. OOOO had it cut this week

Update

Who said by holding an event all the way up in Durham was like shooting yourself in the foot as no one would travel that far.

Well look at this

http://www.tournamentpaintball.co.uk/teamnews.htm

41 teams booked - I will be talking to 6E this weeknd as we had a limit of 36 so some could be disappointed. I think we can go to 45 if we can set up a 5the field

The problem is MARSHALS, as everyone wants to play and currently I only have the Manchester marshals and Showtime.

It will be sorted over the next couple of days.

Steve
