Alright, we are a local Novice team. But we are trying to get better. So we went to tourney practice today. We played people from the Family, Naughty Dogs, Intensity, and a few other NPPL teams. We got slapped around. They talked to us though and helped us out. I guess the reason we put up with the beatings is we win our tourneys when we go. So does anyone play rediculously better teams in hopes to make them better?

Yes but...

Assuming your team has the fundamental techniques there are few things better than playing superior competition to help your team progress however, and its a big however, its important that everyone understands what the team goals are going in so that getting repeatedly cranked up doesn't affect the team's attitude. (Wrong attitude number one--it's OK cause they're really good, Wrong attitude number two--God, we must really suck. Correct attitude--we're willing to take the hit now in practice so it won't happen when the points go on the scoreboard but we don't have to like it.) Also, it is most helpful when you sit down as a team and work thru exactly what happened and how it happened and what you (as a team) can do to change the result. If you're not making a specific effort to learn from the whippings then they're just whippings.

I totally feel that. I think when this first happened to us we were pretty down. We were like, "damn we suck." Well, the next week we rolled over the competion (it was the first tournament for us together). So, I guess this is how we are going to operate. Get welted on, then perform better. A little self deprecating if you ask me :p

Yep , we practised alot in the past with The Pimps, k2 and Nitro. When we turned up they kicked our arses so badly we thought damn time to chose new sport.
But each one of these teams helped us out, they showed how to make moves etc.
we are now sooo much better, i hope
only way to learn is to play better teams

VW's are the game
We don't practice with better teams we just play at a higher level in hopes to better ourselves! Well actaully we get put at a higher level. But it is like anything you do you play the hard teams and you learn from mistakes. What fun would it be to go out and play at tourney and spank your opponents when they are below your ability already?

What do most of you guys do when you're training against so-so teams but they insist on giving you "friendly advice" whether they win or lose? What I'm saying is that these teams never seem to accept that they flat out lost or won and just shut up and pot up.
Annoys the hell out of me.

How do some of y'all deal with it?

Most times these guys are trying to help. Personally i don't mind a bit of constructive criticism.
do hate it though when teams have lost and just try and make excuses.
you know the ones
