Leak on Soveriegn

I'm trying to fix a leak on a mate's Sovereign... When I gas the gun up it leaks through the barrel, not a small leak but not a massive blow through either. If I shoot the gun it goes bang - holding the trigger back stops the leak. When the trigger is released the bolt closes and the leak starts up again.

Any Soveraign techs out there able to diagnose this ?

I'm familiar with 'cockers but not Sovereigns. I would have thought if a valve seal or cup seal had gone then it would leak through the barrel even with the trigger held back ???
