Blakey , why not....

....do what the big series operators do?
Make it compulsory for the teams entered for the full series.
You still get points when marshalling , make it equivalent to winning Division one.
You only get points once per season ( for the teams that offer to marshal more than once ).

That way , all the teams that enter your series get to know what its like to be in the middle of the field. I know not all the teams have got marshalling experience now. So this is a good way of getting them some experience , and show them its not as easy as people think. You just make sure you put them with people who do know what they are doing!

I know Tremmor would do this. It sorts out your worries of finding marshals , and gets everyone a bit more involved.

Just a thought.;) .

Teams to marshal

Twink,

One of the reasons that we have strayed away from asking teams to marshal, is that you cannot gaurantee the intergrity or capability of the teams, there exists the possibility that teams may try and stitch each other up, whether thay actually would or not is a matter of perception. We have decided to try the hard route and do what no-one has successfully done before,( with the exception of the then E.P.S.F). The only series where using teams to marshal has been succesful has been the milleniun series, where because of the high profile of the events, and the calibre of the teams, those selected to marshal are odten some of the best in the world. I know other tourny organisers have tried using teams as refs but this is frought with pittfalls, whilst many teams have a good understanding of the rules, there are a few who lack the necessary skills to officiate efficiently and consistantly, and are abused by some teams.

What we are hoping to do is set up and maintain a UK data-base of tournament marshals, these would available to all UK organisers, we would be able to maintain the integrity of the database by removing any who did not come up to scratch.
We will be fixing the rates of pay and other terms and conditions such as overnight accomaodation, travelling expenses, and awarding an industry recognised certification scheme.

This is not going to be easy but we feel it is achievable, and will improve the general standards of marshalling in the UK.

Let us know your views.
