I think it's the other way around mate, we will have to become a serious sport and then all this crap will have to stop.

Ya know when I look at the state of Paintball, well come to think of it I really mean Proball, not a year goes past without it getting worse.
Any real sporting ethos Paintball had managed to salvage from the woodland Rambo indulgence are being irrevocably eroded as we career from one sporting farce to the next.
From designer cheat markers to ringers to bad judging, the list goes on, seemingly unstoppable and it's fuelled by cheats, indifference and half ass approaches to organizing ourselves and yet, thru all this, we still harbour the arrogance to believe we deserve to go on TV and be accepted as a serious sport .....anybody else see the mind numbingly, stupid lunacy of that belief???

A lot of these problems just take some money to solve - if we get some significant out-of-industry money then budget won't be the primary constraint in making decisions on how tournaments are run.

So you're right because making it big will give us the money to solve a lot of these problems, and you're right that as long as we're not big, nobody is looking so who cares if these problems get solved or not?

So you're right because making it big will give us the money to solve a lot of these problems, and you're right that as long as we're not big, nobody is looking so who cares if these problems get solved or not?

A classic chicken and egg, or so it seems but I'm afraid even tho money would go some way to greasing the process in becoming a more professional sport, both me and you know Chicago, we ain't exactly helping ourselves here because some of the problems endemic within our sport lie well outside the realm of pure finance and wholly within the remit of competent decision making and yet we still manage to drop the ball far too many times.

We have too many people in positions of power who have self-interest and pure incompetence far too high up on their agenda.

I think I have said before somewhere that we are in real danger of shooting ourselves in the foot but knowing all of the people involved in our beloved sport, we'd probably miss that shot anyway

Couldn't agree more. This is a problem that NO amount of money is going to solve. We are going to get out of our collective asses and DO something about it. I'm actually thinking that more money will only make it worse than it is.

A bit off topic... I'm curious, how many countries in Europe have an organization similar to a Paintball Federation or similar governing body. Do you know?

We're trying to get things going in that direction in Portugal and it would be very interesting to know what you think about this.

Although I'm trying not to get too Black Panther on this, but the power should really go to the "people".

Considering the history of the sport and ethics of some of the people involved, I'm not sure big-budget outside sponsorship is the panacea some people think it is. That money will only be effective if it's spent where it's needed, and not lining someone's pocket or funding some vanity project.
