Removal of hose from frm barb.

I've bought a new ego 05 frm from america which arrived today, so I set about removing the old one, but can't separate the hose from the barb. I've tried brute force pulling it but the hose just stretches and I've tried removing the barb with an adjustable spanner, but I think its glued as the spanner is just rounding the edges. Any easy way of removing it.

long nose pliers, or whatever their name is, grab the hose thats wrapped round the barb and pull away.

Didn't work, the pliers just kept grazing the hose and I was worried that it would leak. In the end I cut the hose with a knife at the first knuckle on the barb.

It's a few mm shorter than it was but fits ok.

hmmm worked for me when I fitted new QEV's, never mind, that low pressure hose is cheap to buy anyway.

I may have pinched the hose ahead of the barb, cant quite remember...

Generally when you take that hose off you need to replace it with new hose as it will have stretched around the barb and may leak if you try and reuse it. As a result, i'd normally do as you did and cut a slit down the tube from the tip, down to the end of the barb and then peel the hose off instead of brute force.

Alternatively, if you have something small enough (watchmakers screwdrivers) in future see if you can ease the hose off. The barb has flanges on it to prevent it from just being pulled off. You need to be a bit more inventive.

i normally heat up the hose around the barb a little to soften. will slide off with ease.

if its anything like silicone hose then before pulling it off the barb twist it back and forward then start pulling while doin this and it should slip off

You are still talking about the hose and barb, not something else.

I usually slit mine with a sharp knife to aid removal

Dipping in hot water to soften plastic helps with installation
