I have never bought a Stako bottle so I don't really know, but I find it hard to believe they sell them pressurized, right?

So that "do not fully empty" is:

a) referring to vaccuum (as in do not empty the bottle below athmospheric pressure) or

b) bullsh1t

Pick one ;)

(If they sell them with some pressure > athmospheric, then discard this post ;D)
My bro bought one from Planet and it came with 1000psi in it:).

I'm not Anti-Stako in any way shape or form, but if H-PAC won't fill Stako tanks, it aint for no reason. I'd abide by what H-PAC say, they wouldn't do it to be *******s, there would be a real safety issue. As far as HPA goes, H-PAC know their onions.

Finally, they cannot be re-tested and reused after. Why? The obvious answer is that they degrade over time, meaning that if they are having problems now (at this young stage in life) how unrelaiable and dangerous will they be at the end of their lifespan?
What I've been told is that Stakos can't be re-certified due to the fact that while test show the bottles burst at 10k psi ( I think that was the record) the testing procedure itself irreversibly causes damage to the bottle due to extreme pressures.

i think fisz has a point. the bottles have to be able to stand 2.5(???) times their working pressure without failing. dont think there is anything about them being suitable for regular use afterwards, just that they dont leak or otherwise rupture. Anyone a scuba diver, or diving expert??

Let me start off by saying I am not in any way associated with Stako or any of Stako's current dealers.

I contacted Stako today and spoke to them briefly, I'm awaiting a call from their Production Manager today/tomorrow (depending how you look at it).

If any of you have any problems with a Stako tank, contact me and maybe I'll be able to assist you with getting this resolved. Strawb, get in touch with me.

Glad I resisted the urge to get a 'light' tank now - the whole idea of a plastic liner and chucking a bottle after 5 years gave me the heebies anyway.

Fantastic customer service from LiPS in offering to exchange bottles, silver lining there for some people.

The insinuation by one person that HPAC might, in some way, be responsible for the problem is laughable and it's a shame to see a veiled threat of litigation against them from Stako. They have a duty of care to their customers and are completely justified in their response to the problem.

Well, I did talk to Stako and I have some news but right now I'm a little busy cutting down trees in my yard so will post what I was told a bit later in the evening.
