or is it to do with the rules we play to.
No.

The rules that the MS use (and are in turn used by many UK events) are based on the PSP rules.

Rules are essentially a matter of common sense, but unfortunately you cannot teach common sense.

The underlying factor is that the US - particularly the West Coast - has many of the best players in the world, who practice against each other several times a week.

Jon, there is a lot of misconception that you need to practice [play] against good teams to improve and establish your level of play ... this is not the case I'm afraid.

If we look toward what the Russians achieved when they burst onto the paintball scene not so long ago. They'd been training in Moscow with no top end oppostion to practice against and became one of the world's top 4 teams.
If we look closer to home and with a fair degree of self-interest, when I started Nexus, we played and trained on our own for that first 6 months or so and ended up getting into the world's top ten teams in our first season ..
Playing against top end oppostiion certailny helps the cause but it's not the only route to the top mate.
If you know what to train and how to do it, you can get to the top, I know this to be true, all you need is the resolve and the right players.

so its more a question of money and geographical position. Everyone has the ability to get to the best of there game if they have the time and money. Something that lacks here on our little plot of land of britain.

Hmmm, not really geography no but it does help when you can play all year round like the West Coast Cali boys can do but this does not preclude anybody from getting into the top ten as I have exampled with Nexus and the Russian Legion.

Money most certainly is an issue but I also think our industry is a lot less supportive of the teams but at the same time, i do believe our industry supports our teams appropriately in terms of bang for your buck.

The Yank teams were sponsored way above what they were worth and it all caught up with them a couple of years back .. sponsorship is now being clawed back to more realistic levels .. and rightly so.

If we want a Brit team to get up there then we need someone in the industry to back it but I'm afraid the required level of support isn't gonna happen leastwise not in today's climate.
It's a shame because we really do have the players and I hate wasted talent .....

Agreed - but you need the right type of coach to train properly, as I mentioned in my post re Method quitting the SPL.

Thanks, Pete.

I didn't get your message, but then I've been at death's door for the last few weeks with a bad case of flu.

I have an interview tomorrow, so if you could call me anytime after 1pm that would be great - I'll leave my phone on.

Another good example of an isolated team is Viscious. Althought they are in the US, they are like in the middle of Nebraska. Having said that though, Aftershock are like 3 hours from them so in the scale of things, they havnt got it that bad.
