yeah so how is it a problem if its manufactured like that?
i seem to have some weird air bubbles on the surface on my bottle it seems that the sections with air bubbles could crack or split, is this part of the problem?

Had a customer use a brand new stako bottle at the site i work it leaked as described a constant leak from round the base of the bottle scarred the hell out of me 3000psi leaking out of bottle it self . Now iv read the Stako desighn from them im never getting a stako nore will i ever be filling one at the site.

I had heard what had happened while I was in Germany but never got a chance to discuss the point in detail with H-pac.
But, as an event organiser I along with all other's in the same position look for guidance from the professionals in this matter and H-pac themselves will have the final say on any products they allow to be filled using their equipment.
H-Pac would not refuse to fill any bottle unless they felt unsure of the safety of the bottle or regulator.
If indeed what was observed is normal with this product and is not a fault perhaps the manufacturer themselves should have made sure people were made aware of the phenomena before it was discovered.

Even if it was then the air should stay trapped between the layers not leak out. If it leaks out then the outer layer is weak therefore unsafe. Remember any scratch or damage to the outside of your bottle and they destroy it and even if it is in test they can refuse to allow you to fill it

This is some seriously scary stuff.

It would seem from an outside perspective that there is an issue with the plastic inner liner. If Strawb has had the same issue with a tank produced mid 2006 it is clearly not a batch issue. Plastic and 300bar does not work well in my opinion.

Anyone using a Stako should think carefully about filling it prior to an official third party response on what is clearly a very worrying issue.

yeah exactly until this has been cleared up and sorted out i will be putting my stako in the box and out of sight, even thought i love the bottle safety comes first

How does air get inbetween the two layers?

Surely they are airtight?

Also, if you read the side of the bottle, it does say:

Directions for use: Do not fully empty, close the cylinder valve, close the shut-off valve, to be filled only with air (atmospheric gas) according to EN 12021."

Wouldn't the bit in bold stop any air from getting inbetween the two layers??

Mine started leaking late last year, Manufacture date 06.2006. (Got it around sept and was leaking by nov)
It was one of a batch imported by Iron Lions from Skill Paintball (think their a polish shop that handles european distribution of Stako's).

First thing i notices was a few days after an event it was empty when i know their was 3500+ psi in it when i'l left the event. I filled it to 1500psi from a dive tank and that's when i heard a leak, i took that video which scared the s@#t out of me and imediatly emptied the tank.

Edwin from Iron Lions was informed as they were using/selling tanks bought at the same time, he reported that they had NOT had any similar issues and gave me contact details for Skill Paintball.
After many attempts at getting any kind of response out of skill i ended up with a scrap tank which is still here.

Ended up buying another stako from planet so i'm now out of pocket by around £300 and have 2 useless tanks

I remember you. I think you were the one that John C contacted me about to help get this resolved - Sorry to hear that the Skill guys didn't step up.

You might want to talk to John about it again - I just inspected my private stako and there are long cracks visible along the sticker on the outermost layer, plus some more cracks around the bottom, no leaks though. I'll be calling Stako tomorrow and trying to have this taken care of. Might just send them two bottles while I'm at it.

Now, I just need to vent those 3000 psi from there.
